I am beyond ecstatic to announce that I have been shortlisted for the Greater Manchester Arts Prize 2019.
“In 2016 Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce was delighted to launch a new annual arts prize.Soon to be in our fourth year, the 2019 competition will open in February 2019. The prize will be open to all semi-professional and professional contemporary artists. The prize has been created to provide a platform for contemporary visual artists to become connected to the region’s business community, help provide opportunities for artists to be recognised on a national/international scale and help retain artistic talent in our area.We are delighted to be holding our GM Arts Prize Exhibition at Bolton Museum and Art Gallery. The shortlisted works will be on display to the public between Thursday 6th June 2019 and Friday 5th July 2019.”
There is still the matter of awarding four cash prizes at a ceremony on the 6th June 2019 at Bolton Museum and Art Gallery. Those winners will be determined by the judging panel which includes:
Ghislaine Howard, a painter whose works chart and interpret shared human experience. Named as a ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2008 for her contribution to art and society, she has exhibited in many prestigious venues including Manchester Art Gallery, The Whitworth, Imperial War Museum North, Canterbury Cathedral and the British Museum. A monograph relating to her life and work, ‘The Human Touch’ written by her husband, the art historian Michael Howard was published by Manchester Metropolitan University in 2017.
Ian Hay, Co-Founder and Director of Saul Hay Gallery and Saul Hay Fine Art Ltd. Since opening in Castlefield in 2016 Saul Hay Gallery is firmly established as a leading independent art gallery in Manchester supporting a great many local artists.
Jo Clements, 2018 GM Art Prize winner. She has a fine art, practice based PhD, lectures at the University of Salford, and was previously the Educational Director of Artists and Education CIC.
Louise Durose, General Counsel International Diesel for MAN Energy Solutions which has its global headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. Louise is based at the UK headquarters in Stockport. The MAN Diesel & Turbo Group designs and manufactures large diesel engines and turbo machinery.
The shortlist contains such a wealth of talent that I am sure the judges will be deliberating for some time to come!
